RUPAUL’S DRAG RACE SEASON 17
360° Marketing Campaign | MTV | January 2025
DIVE INTO THE SPLASHIEST SEASON IN HERSTORY!
Overview: RuPaul’s Drag Race is BACK and this season 14 new queens are making waves like never before. For the most twisted season yet, we designed a rain-soaked, high-fashion set where our queens could take their first dive into the spotlight—literally. With dramatic lighting and a sleek, cinematic aesthetic, the promos set the tone for a season unlike any other. And H-2-Oh my GAWWWWD did it deliver.
My Role: Led creative for the campaign as Senior Writer/Producer — shaping bold, fan-first concepts and scripting high-energy spots that captured the show’s signature mix of drama, humor, and heart. Oversaw production (pre through post) and directed talent on set, delivering a cohesive campaign across broadcast, digital, and social.
Creative Development: Developed and pitched bold campaign concepts that captured the essence of RPDR and amped up fan excitement.
Pre-Production Logistics: Spearheaded pre-production deck in collaboration with Creative Directors, Art Directors, Stylists, DP, Director, etc — ensuring detailed shot lists, lighting setups, visual/set references were aligned across departments.
Production Oversight: Collaborated with editors, designers, and producers to execute high-impact creative across TV, digital, and social platforms.
Talent Direction: Worked closely with the queens to build trust on set and maximize on-camera performance—ensuring each take felt authentic, high-energy, and true to the Drag Race brand.
Scripting & Storytelling: Wrote promos, teasers, and digital content that highlighted the drama, humor, and heart of the show.
Final Execution – Delivered high-energy trailers, teasers, and on-air spots that maximized audience engagement while staying true to the brand.
Results: By crafting a visually striking campaign and bold creative direction, we helped drive the highest-rated season premiere in seven years. According to Nielsen ratings, the premiere scored a 0.908 rating among adults 18-34 and a 0.993 rating among adults 18-49—the best premiere performance in 12 years, up 9% from the previous season. Can you say slay, much?!
